The Falmouth Heritage Museum Building

On Saturday November 17 and Sunday November 25, 2007, the Museum Building was open for inspection. Members of the Society and friends had the opportunity to see what needs to be done before we can actually open as The Falmouth Heritage Museum. We have been progressing slowly over the past months making improvements as we receive the funds.  There is still work to be done on the interior before we can become operational.

The Falmouth Heritage Museum will be an important cultural asset. It will contain many items used by former Falmouth residents. Until now, there has been no central location for the care and display of interesting and valuable items of historic value.

We will be working with the Falmouth schools and with specialized craft organizations to present workshops dealing with important skills that were necessary in the past. Today our money buys most of the items and services that support our standard of living. This was not so in the past when food, clothing and tools were often produced by those who used them.

The Capital Campaign Fund was initiated several years ago to bring about the creation of The Falmouth Heritage Museum and Park.

Our goal from the beginning has been to raise $ 350,000.   We estimated that refurbishing the building, creating a parking area and landscaping the grounds would cost about $ 250,000

$100,000 will go into the separate Heritage Museum Endowment Fund. The income from the Fund investments will be used only for the maintenance, and expansion of the Falmouth Heritage Museum and Park.

We are working now to raise the final total of $120,000 in contributions and pledges.

Many of you reading this newsletter have already contributed to the Capital Campaign. Many of you have not received a direct request to contribute.

Worthy organizations, ask us to contribute to a variety of very important causes, both local and national. If you like history, here is an opportunity for you to participate in the creation of a very important cultural resource for the Town of Falmouth.

We urge you to consider making a donation in an amount, large or small, that you will be comfortable in giving. Thank you for your continuing support. Please call the Society if you are interested in the specifics involved in our plans to open the Museum.
