The Falmouth Historical Society

Organizational Information

The Historical Society was organized in 1966 and incorporated in 1981. Many of the individuals involved in the creation were members of the Friends of the Library or on the staff of the Falmouth Memorial Library. Over the years a Collection of materials has been accumulated and was housed in  the Memorial Library. 

 The Society is an independent organization incorporated under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue code as a non-profit corporation devoted to educational, historical and preservation activities. It conforms to the laws of the State of Maine. A revised Constitution was adopted in 2001and complete Bylaws in 2006. The fiscal year begins on July 1 or each year and the Program Year on January 1.  The Society is managed by a Board of Directors.  An annual meeting is held each year in October.

The Society Office and Genealogical Center is located in the Whipple Farm House on Homestead Lane Falmouth, ME.

 Financial Information

The Historical Society is supported by dues and contributions. Many members make additional contributions. A number of special funds have been created to allow members and friends to be more specific in their giving. These are as follows:

*       The Heritage Fund will receive donations to be used for the creation and development of the Falmouth Heritage Museum..

*       The Education Fund will  receive donations to be used for the development and presentation of programs and exhibits about the history of Falmouth, Maine to Falmouth school students and the public.

*       The Veterans' Recognition Fund will receive donations to recognize veterans of our armed forces buried in Falmouth. Funds will be used to purchase plants to be placed on individual gravesites. Donations may be made in the name of individual veterans and may be given for specific purposes.

*      The Endowment Fund for the Heritage Museum will receive contributions to be invested. The income received will be used for the cost of operating and maintaining  the Heritage Museum.

The Board has identified some specific areas that will be benefited by your support. Donations may be made in the memory of specific individuals.

*      Genealogical and historical books

*       Equipment for the display of historical artifacts, books and materials

*      Support for Society promotional materials

*      Equipment and furnishings

Unless noted specifically, monetary gifts to the Society are placed in The Heritage Fund.
